IR APPROVED and *Starred Review* “Endearing and heartwarming, About Anna… is an emotional powerhouse.” IndieReader

*Starred Review* "This has to be the most fun I have had relating to a story in some time. The writing is so charismatic, full of wit and dry humor. I laughed out loud many times throughout the book, at the cleverness and direct sarcasm applied to each encounter Anna has, with her family, prospective romantic partners, and old friends. Her family members belong to the Naysayers, Inc., with her mother being the CEO. Speaking of which, the dysfunctional relationship Anna has with her mother will drive readers crazy, many will be able to relate, if not directly, than through their own personal experiences. Readers will experience more than fun and humor though; I found myself quite the emotional basket case at times. Anna’s character could be representative of any woman, riddled with self-doubt and insecurities developed from growing up in the midst of dysfunction, and the depth of her character is what intrigues me the most. In fact, all of the characters are given life in such a way that will draw you inside their heads, whether you like them or not. I highly recommend About Anna… by Sophia Michelle Delanner for a remarkably clever read. This beautifully written debut novel has me eagerly waiting to see what’s next from the refreshing talent of Ms. Delanner." — Sheri Hoyte, Reader Views.

RECOMMENDED and *Starred Review* "Sophia Michelle Delanner pens a page-turning fictionalized biographical sketch in her debut novel. Using Anna as her main character, Delanner's first-person narrative is replete with episodes that in many parts have a Seinfeld-feel to them. Quite the storyteller, Delanner embellishes each anecdote—most often a reflection of Anna's dysfunctional family—with uproariously funny scenes complete with a host of well-defined characters. ... While many chapters incorporate comedic scenes, Delanner's stories also include her beloved grandparents and personal suffering (as well as horrors) associated with WWII and the Soviet Union. A chief theme throughout the plot involves mother and daughter relationships. Anna struggles with her overbearing mother, as well as her own daughter, Hannah. Delanner keeps her narrative crisp and flowing by periodically alternating between Anna's present life, memories from her past, and dark stories from the old country. Because of its human-interest topics, About Anna... has the potential of reaching a wide audience. This is a fascinating and entertaining read from beginning to end." — Anita Lock, The US Review of Books

*Starred Review* "This is an amazing, witty, smart and powerful novel. It depicts the life of Anna, a Soviet immigrant who comes to America to seek a better life. We follow her journey inside out: relationships and family are at the heart of this story. I fell in love with the originality of the characters. Every single one of them is so unique, special and colorful. One’s personality and behaviour has always intrigued me. The writing is marvelous! I was already impressed by the first sentences. What I find fascinating is the relationship between Anna and her mother, it’s so psychologically demanding and exhausting. Parents and children relationships are one of the dynamics that always interested me. Some dialogues between them were really relatable and I think anyone can relate to it as a mother or as a daughter. In the story, the author succeeds in mirroring the relationship between Anna and her mother and Anna and her daughter, Hannah. I can feel that the protagonist is doing all her best to not be like her mother by raising Hannah as healthy as possible. Everything is so compelling. From that first awkward conversation about sex with your child to the abusive boyfriends, Sophia Michelle Delanner definitely wrote a beautiful story here." — Trang, Bookidote blog.
